Human rights awareness is a major precondition
for civil society and pluralist democracy. In order
to be active parts of civil society, people have
to be informed about their rights, they have to
be given access to relevant information on procedures
on how to claim their rights from the authorities
and they have to learn how to respect the human
rights of others.
This project,in the beginning aimed at the establishment and advancement
of human rights centres at the universities of Sarajevo,
Banjaluka, Mostar, Prishtina and Podgorica as well
as human hights focal/contact points at the universities
of Skopje, Belgrade and Zagreb.
Today in 2005 the centres provide services in the fields
of library and documentation, teaching, training and
research as well as operate as clearing houses for
local and international academic co-operation activities
in the field of human rights.
